Before your live class
How a live class works
Six short steps, from clearing a space to what happens when a cue arrives mid-pose. Read them, or let Emily talk you through it while you set up.
Step 1 · 10 minutes before
Set your space
Clear a mat-sized patch of floor with room to reach your arms out in every direction. A wall behind or beside you is useful for balance work.
- Mat, and a block or thick book within reach
- A blanket or cushion for anything seated
- A strap, belt or towel for shoulders and hamstrings
- Water beside the mat, phone on do not disturb
Step 2 · 5 minutes before
Place your camera
Your teacher and Emily read your shape from a still picture taken every few seconds, so what matters is that your whole body is in the frame from the side.
- Camera side-on to your mat, about two to three metres away
- Lens roughly at hip height, propped on a chair or shelf
- Head to feet visible when you stand and when you lie down
- Light in front of you, not behind — avoid a bright window at your back
Step 3 · 3 minutes before
Sound and connection
Cues are read aloud to you during class. Headphones keep them clear and stop your microphone picking up the room.
- Headphones or a speaker you can hear from the mat
- Turn the volume up a little more than feels natural
- Close other tabs and downloads so the picture keeps sending
- Plug in, or start above half battery
Step 4 · 2 minutes before
Join the room
Open the link your teacher sent, type your first name and allow the camera. You'll see yourself on screen — that's the same view your teacher sees.
- Tap the join link, enter your name, allow camera access
- Stand on your mat and check you fit in the frame
- Nothing is recorded — still pictures are only kept while you're in the room
- You can silence spoken cues at any time and still read them
Step 5 · While you practise
During the class
Cues arrive one at a time, always the single most useful thing. Take them as an invitation, never an order — your body has the final say.
- Make one change per cue, then carry on breathing
- Missed it? The wording stays on screen beside your video
- Step out of frame whenever you want a private moment
- Come out of anything that hurts; sharp pain is always a stop
Step 6 · Afterwards
After you finish
Close the room to stop your camera. If your teacher recorded the class, it appears on the class page for you to practise along with later.
- Close the tab or leave the room to end the camera
- Rest for a few breaths before you stand up
- Recordings show up on the class page you booked from
- Ask Emily anything you were unsure about
Your camera, your call
Only your teacher sees your picture, and only while you're in the room — other attendees never do. Nothing is stored unless you choose to keep a snapshot. You can step out of frame, silence the spoken cues, or leave at any point, and none of it interrupts the class. Emily's guidance is teaching, not medical advice; if something hurts or you're working around an injury, ease off and speak to a clinician.
